Drill for turning a Hario manual grinder

Postby shawndo on Thu Jan 20, 2011 7:55 pm

I was watching some Alton Brown reruns and in one of the shows he attaches a pepper mill to a hand drill. I found some DIY instructions online: http://www.instructables.com/id/Automat...r-Grinder/

So... my sister just inherited my old Lelit and doesn't have a grinder yet. I was wondering if anyone might have done something like this for a coffee grinder? Any tips, ideas, comments? Maybe some hand grinders might lend themselves better than others towards this goal?

It'd be nice to be able to get a ceramic, conical grinder without the wrist fatigue. At least for a while so they can see the value in a more serious grinder.

A few threads discuss motorizing a manual grinder:

ZassenDecker, a Motorized Zassenhaus

There's another thread where the poster built a wood case with a compartment that held a manual grinder and the motor was mounted directly above it. Sorry, it's an old thread and I cannot find it. Anyone remember it?

UPDATE: Here it is... My new Moto-Zassenhaus!
