Doserless Mazzer Super Jolly mod problems

Postby soru on Fri Apr 15, 2011 4:05 pm

Hey all,

I picked up a Super Jolly a few months ago and recently got a doserless kit for it from phaelon56 on ebay. But, my doser doesn't seem to be attached with the same screws that the instructions assume. I've attached a couple pictures --

At the top are two tiny bolts with six sided heads. These aren't a big problem -- I'm sure I can remove them with the right tool -- but I'm including it for completeness.

At the bottom, the screws don't have any visible slot to unscrew them. This is the big problem:

So how do I get these out? They're completely flush with the bottom of the doser. I've tried taking the bottom plate off the grinder to see if they could be accessed from below, but there's no good way to get at them from in there either. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Normally there would be two phillips or slotted screws in the lower holes. Those look like plugs for holes with no screws in them. Did you remove the two upper screws & try removing the doser?

My guess is that those are just pins with flat heads that will lift out with the doser body once you remove the upper hex screws. I've never seen anything but slotted screws in that position and I have removed dosers on a couple of dozen Mazzers to date.

Thanks for the replies -- I hope you're right and they're just pins. I was waiting to pull the hex nuts off before replying so I could confirm that, but it's turning into more of a challenge than I expected. 5/32 is too small, but 3/16 is too big. 4mm is too small, but 5mm is too big. I'm waiting on a 4.5mm hex driver from Amazon to see if that will fit these nuts, and if not then I'll try just gripping them with a heavy adjustable wrench and replace them with normal screws when I put it back together.
