Does decaf/regular require different grinders

Postby workinghard on Wed Dec 16, 2009 1:09 am

Hey, a quick question. As I understand it the only reason to have different grinders are:

Cross contamination if all beans arent swept out
I will have to change the grind setting to really match up with each bean.

My wife is pregnant so I will have to switch, but I wanted to make sure there wasnt any other reason why I shouldnt do both on the same grinder. Any other reason? Thanks!

Brian,

Regular and decaf are irrelevant -- different beans require different settings. That is, after dialing in the proper setting for Bean A on Grinder X, you would have to re-dial Grinder X for Bean B, and then re-dial in for Bean A . . . and then re-dial Grinder X for Bean B, and then re-dial in for Bean A, and so on and so on. And this does not take into account the "regular" adjustments necessary as the beans age.

Does anyone need a second grinder? No, but if you switch back-and-forth between coffees frequently, it's a PITA without two . . .

Cheers,
Jason

I understood that to be the case, I just wanted to verify before proceeding. Thanks for the help!
