DIY Grinder Project - Page 13

Yes, the hand grinder using the big Robur burrs is quite feasible. I found it enjoyable with an eight inch crank handle. My problem was that the burr was never properly mounted and holding it (without a comparable lever) was the challenge. I have long considered the prospect of a very minor reduction, maybe a thirty percent one to make it slightly more approachable for my wife. The total time (or number of cranks) to grind a single shot for my Pavoni was quite acceptable, and oh so quiet! I think some of the details are posted earlier in this thread.

Go for it!

I'm curious if anyone thought of a vertical configuration, something similar to a Mahlkonig Gautemala:

Tom: This is very similar to the KA Proline grinder. I had one of these and while it worked fairly well, coffee would collect in certain areas. It was at least simple to clean. Retro-fitting a KA Proline with a great set of burrs would certainly interest a number of people. The KA motor and electronics are simple to get to, the geared KA motor seems much smaller motor than the Gautemala one.
