Compak K10 Fresh

Postby TrlstanC on Fri Jan 07, 2011 4:57 pm

Has anyone had any experience with a production K10 Fresh, or heard any news about availability, pricing, etc?

I've seen the demo videos, and heard that a few people had models for testing, and that production models should start showing up in January, with retail supply picking up sometime after that.

I'm not sure how intelligently the grounds shoot has been designed, but assuming (which might be a bit optimistic) that it's better than just a pipe slapped on to the body of a regular K10, this should be a very interesting grinder. Unfortunately I'm guessing that it's going to end up costing a lot more than the regular K10 WBC.

Hi Tristan,

Have you found the thread on the australian coffee site? http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1284342509/15
Only first hand experience I have seen reported. Not much info though.

I have been e-mailing Josh Fields at Compak and he claims the grinder will be available in February from WLL and Chris Coffee for ~$2000. When asked about the chute design, he remained silent (at least by e-mail). Just as you, I am anxious to know if anything was done to minimize grind retention. Will post if I get an answer.

Will that price be with or without the dynometric tamper option?
I'm not looking for a grinder, but I wonder what the price differential would be.
The K8 seems to be the flat burr version.

The release date keeps being pushed back, but I'm sure it will eventually show up. Promotional material is available, but nothing about the internal design of course. From what I've seen, I get the feeling most of the new features will not be particularly beneficial to home users, and it's probably very similar to the current K10 doserless internally.

$2000 MSRP will be without tamper. It *should* translate into $1800 street price

Correct.

I wouldn't be too jealous as the K10 Fresh is $3000 U.S. over there.

But you shouldn't mention it over there because it makes their site sponsors look bad, and that's what's important

Cynic  also important to note we have over a 20% combined duty/tax burden for a start over the US market. So not all of it is profits we also get paid a little more than the US minimum wage.

One of the Aussies (sponsor of the site mentioned ;) ) has been running one here and after 100kg+ reckons it runs "hot" compared to a Robur. Never going to be an issue for the home users or all but the highest demand situations. Still has a great set of features built into it and I would consider it for my next large grinder.

Happy recent owner of a K10 WBC doser version and timer.

Just an fyi ... I got a note from ZCafe (here in Canada) that Compak is waiting on UL certification for the "Fresh" to be completed, which they estimate may take another 30-60 days.

Cheers

K10 Fresh posted up to Chris Coffee website, prices listed are (higher than I was expecting):

$2065 - Black
$2100 - Polished Aluminum

http://www.chriscoffee.com/products/hom...akk10fresh

I emailed, and they said shipments are expected last week of March, or first week of April.

A Macap M7D for $1350 or so is starting to sound like a pretty good deal.
