The Kony has the same dimensions and roughly the same cost as the Major. For low volume home use, I would prefer it.

I am guessing Lavazza gets distributor pricing, and if your friend passes on those savings to you, then I really think it's a no brainer. Buy a Robur and use it for 6 months, if you're not happy at that time just sell it and buy something else (should have no problem breaking even or making a profit!). By then the Compak K10 Fresh ought to be on the market as well and hopefully gotten a verdict from the early adopters.

Barista jam at your house next time? :D

Of course the barista Jam can be at my house next time, why do you think I'm looking at a new grinder? My little Demoka 203 doesn't cut it anymore and I'm tired of waiting 35-40secs for an 18g grind. But that Robur, I'm sorry, it is just too much of a Beast! I went back through all the titan project photos and even the stickied Grinder comparison - and there is a perfect picture showing them all together and the Robur just dwarfs everything! It would dwarf my poor little Duetto and there isn't space under my cabinets for it. But I will say this, I was at Ikea all day with the wife (not all day, but it was a pleasant couple of hours - anything to avoid this 30+c heat) looking for Kitchen Islands to move my crammed corner into a glorious position all it's own. We'll see. . ..

I never thought about the Kony. If that's the case, it just became a contender. I never thought about it simply because it doesn't get mentioned much. And your right, it is pretty low volume at home, max is 150g a day with the average around 110g.

Tomorrow I'm off to sit in on some tech training at Lavazza and get a glimpse into their world. Also I'll be able to pull lot's of shots on different Nueva Simonelli 3-4 group machines and whatever other goodies they have in the training center!!

After reading this thread and being tired of a less than satisfactory chute, I decided to start with JohnB's mod. But like most members, I can't be satisfied doing what others have done. So I cut the center of the plastic piece out altogether and fashioned a little slide out of metal. It was scary and I thought I'm wrecking not only my expensive, but my only, grinder. Eventually, after cutting the metal a dozen times and grinding down part of the doser housing it finally came together. I don't know that it's a huge improvement since there's still about an inch of horizontal area that coffee can sit on, but once it hits the ramp it falls out pretty good.Image

Anyone still here?
After removing the chute (and doser) I can't get it all to fit back together correctly! When I tighten the two screws that hold the bottom doser assy together, the whole thing misaligns and comes apart. I was able to wedge the lens down a bit and loosen the bottom screws slightly to where it is usable, but it is still noticeably askew.

None of you guys experienced this?
May you be cursed with enthusiasm for products manufactured in "developed" countries.

I can't speak for everybody, but I didn't have any major problems with it fitting together upon reassembly. when I tighten the bottom part of the doser against the grinder body, though, it does push the plastic window insert up a little and creates a small gap between the plastic and the doser bottom that allows coffee to accumulate there a little bit. It's a small annoyance, nothing in the range of what you're talking about.

Where exactly are you guys putting the electrical tape? I've got the plastic chute trimmed, are you putting the electrical tape around the metal part that the plastic shut plugs into, so it seals the two together?

Is there any other part to be worried about grounds getting into the body of the K10?

I trimmed the chute and removed the plate in the doser. Anything else I need to do or am I ready to rock?

Check out this thread: Compak K10 Grind Retention Mods (vane and tape sweeper mods)

I used self sticking velcro to seal between the chute bottom & metal case.

I still don't understand. The thread you linked to shows the velcro on the turning doser, I'm talking about the chute coming from the burrs I have pictured above. I trimmed that plastic chute, but I read that people are getting coffee grounds in the body/motor of the grinder, so they are sealing something in those two chutes. Does that make sense? If thats nothing to worry about, then I'm good as is.

You asked what other mods you should consider so I posted that link. I also said that I sealed between the chute & the case with a piece of self sticking velcro. This is what keeps the grounds out of the body cavity.
You can see it covered with coffee in this photo: Compak K10 Chute Mods

Perfect thanks!

One other question - why deal with all these modifications rather than simply modifying the unit to be doserless like done here. Obviously will cost more, but I don't see how it couldn't be a much better option than all these little mods.
