Clumping issue with new Mazzer Kony E

Postby EdwardM on Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:09 am

Hello all, I just unboxed a brand new Kony-e today and am quite surprised with the amount of clumping - i.e. there are lots of clumps of various sizes, many of which are quite compact and harder than expected to break down (I will take some pics tomorrow if this helps). Will this level of clumping decrease once the burrs have been properly seasoned? Would be great to hear from those who have experience using the Kony-e.

Many thanks

There is a screen on the exit chute that causes clumping. I've been told the amount of clumping produced by this screen doesn't affect the shot but I couldn't make peace with the clumps, so I removed the screen. I haven't noticed any problems with static but I live in S. Florida and it tends to be humid.

After you run anywhere between 50 - 100lbs through, you should have a good idea of how the Kony will perform for the next umpteen years. My Major E and Robur E are singing along after 2 1/2 years and should be good for a quite some time. I think I've put through them after all this time what a moderately busy coffee shop would do in a week or so - about 200lbs each.

Thanks for the responses. I have spoken to a few other Kony-e owners and they also found initial clumping, but thankfully it calmed down after a while. Looks like i'll just have to deal with average espresso until the burrs are well seasoned!
