Cimbali Max Hybrid doser malfunction

Postby Heike on Sat Aug 29, 2009 7:51 am

Hello!

I have been owning this grinder, my first ever for espresso, for two weeks. My husband attempted to use it this morning, and the doser does not turn any longer. I am not sure what he did, exactly, but I am reaching out for help from you wise guys. The user manual is of no assistance. :(

Never mind, I figured it out. Took that large screw off and emptied out all the grinds, then brushed things off a little, and put everything back in place.

BUT, is this a common phenomenon? Can it be prevented somehow?

My suggestion would be to keep your husband away from that grinder.

If you pull the doser lever around to the point that it doses but the handle has not hit the end of its travel, but let it return back to the resting position, it will not fully advance the star gear and the ratchet will not grab. You end up with a half cocked doser. You can flap the doser handle and it will not turn. But, if you pull the doser all the way forward until it stops, then let it drop back to the resting position, it will finish turning the gear and the ratchet will catch for the next pull. Dont know if that is what happened to you, but it happened to me once simply because I did not pull the doser for its complete travel.
