I will go on record to say that my k30 has sprayed on me numerous times (at least 30 in 12000 shots). I bet it happens on a lot of grinders. We all get that shot that's a whole gram over, and if you pay attention it sprays when it does this. The design of the k30 just makes that spray go into the portafilter. So not a big deal really. If my flapper is clogged on one side, and that clog breaks free, then it will spray from the force it took to unclog it.

My point is, I think Larry explains it perfectly in his linked thread. Most grinders deflect that spray into the portafilter and the e37s sprays it on the user. I bet their next model will have a better exit path.

Just my 2 cents on the matter. I have never used the ceado; just what I gather from following Larry's threads, and this one.

A quick update a few weeks in. My double-shot timer is set to 3.7s, targeting 15.8g. Measured output varies a bit, from ~15g to ~16.2g but I'm trying to develop a feel for drift as the beans age. May end up at 3.8s but we'll see.

No spraying (yet?) and the low noise levels are certainly compelling. It's only gone through a few pounds of beans so far so a long way to go on break in.

I did pop the top to adjust the reference position for the grind adjuster lever and had a look at the screw heads for indication of damage during assembly. Everything looks good on mine, fortunately. The smaller hopper supplied by WLL is good for a little over a pound of medium roast beans from Blue Bottle, maybe more (I put in 12oz at a time and it leaves about an inch of headroom below the cap)

I wonder why my E37S stopped spraying completely without any modifications? *knocks on wood*

The only change I made is I no longer let it run 100% empty.

Mine hasn't sprayed in months. I've had it since February and it spray 2 or 3 times very early on and has not spray once since. I've got the newer SCC flap and have it positioned all the way open to get a fluffy grind and still no spraying.

I love my E37S............

Mine will still surprise me with a spray up my arm once in a while. Usually it happens when I'm in a rush to get some coffee and head out the door in the morning. It depends a lot on which beans you're grinding. Some don't seem to do it, other beans will.

You can set the SCC control all the way closed and it probably won't ever spray. However, it makes lots of clumps and retains a lot more grinds this way.

I have my SCC open relatively big and haven't had spraying in like 10 months. I always have a small amount of beans in the hopper though with a tamper on them. I think single dosing this thing makes it angry, ha.

Anyways, I've been doing the lower pressure thing as well and I've been having great results.

Been on a fresh bag of beans for the last 5 days without issue and got the spraymaster effect this morning.

The beans are Ritual's seasonal espresso.

I too experienced the spray problem on a brand new E37S.
It has been working well since modding it and I'm pleased with the grind quality. details below

I did my first reasonably thorough cleaning of the grinder the other day. I hadn't had any spraying issues but I'd run a batch of fairly dark/oily beans through it and wanted to see what might have built up.

One of the screws under the rubber bumper element (which otherwise captures the bean hopper) was sitting proud of its countersunk hole on the control panel casting by several mm. I was concerned the threads might be damaged but evidently it simply hadn't been snugged down.

Disassembly was otherwise unremarkable. There was some buildup of accumulated old grounds in the channel surrounding the lower burr, but a brush and a poking device (aka chopstick) helped to get everything out. I left the little flappy thing in place and untouched since I'd had no issues with its performance thus far.

Reassembly was simple, everything fit as expected. As promised, the grind setting appeared unaffected by the service.

I did uncover a curious thing recently, though it's not directly related to the grinder. I have two identical baskets which came with my L1. I make use of both of them each morning. My routine was to power on and tare the scale with the basket, grind 15.8g of beans (confirmed by weight), swap baskets in the portafilter, grind another 15.8g of beans, and then pull both shots.

What I discovered was that the two baskets are ~0.7g different in mass. This was surprising since it's roughly 4.5% of the intended shot weight. So I've added a separate tare step into the sequence.

I did the ARSE mod more or less from this thread, except I used a thin piece of food safe plastic from a water jug instead of a beer can. It basically implements the same thing as found in the excellent (and > $3200) Nuova Simonelli Mythos One Clima Pro. It is the same idea as their "clump crusher".

Ideally, it should be 0.25mm (or 10-mil) stiff plastic that is still very flexible. Think like the lid on a fast-food soda cup.

I just took the flapper door out of the grinder exit, and slipped the cut up plastic "shark teeth" between the exit port on the grind chamber and the SCC thing and put it all back together. Bend the triangles open and that's pretty much it.

So far, no spraying incidents and I'm getting nice grinds with some soft clumping, but no rocks. If the plastic is too stiff, just bend it open more until it doesn't retain or clump much and the grinds come out easily without spraying.
