Ceado E37S first impressions, so-called spraying, etc - Page 4

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

I'm going to start another thread with my "second" impressions. This SCC and spraying thing has a life of its own.

After a few days of settling in with it, I have to agree with the grind quality, quietness and overall functionality is very, very good. Certainly a steal at this price point.

Also, in spite of what WLL and others have published, my unit came with a Ceado (not Mazzer Mini) short hopper that with the lid on, will just slide past my upper cabinet lighting valance at about 17.25 inches high.

It also happily single doses as well as the Baratza Vario.

I also just got an e37s as well (two weeks) and I haven't had such a happy result with single dosing (whereas it was great with my Vario). Can you provide a little more detail on what you are doing with single dosing?

For example, I assume you have the SCC open, as you I think you noted in an earlier post. No hopper? Anything to weigh down beans, cover, etc?

Thanks.
Chris

I do not single dose. I put in approximately 120 grams in each morning (purge 5 grams into a mason jar) and simply pull 3-5 shots throughout each day.

Personally I never got the whole single dose benefits.....too much of a PITA for me. But again YMMV and that is just how my workflow works each day.

BTW: any pics of the Ceado short hopper? Interested on how it compares in looks and function vs the Mazzer Mini???

Below are side-by-side of the Mazzer Mini Hopper (left) and new Ceado e37s short hopper (right)

the Mazzer Mini is 0.5" (or less) shorter, but neck a little longer.

My coffee corner, Vario, Ceado E37S and La Marzocco Linea Mini.

The Ceado E37S came with the new, Ceado short hopper. It will just slide under the lighting valance on the edge of the upper cabs, so it is just under 17.5" tall with the lid on it.

The dial-in range for espresso is kind of narrow. On the dial, about 2.5 is a choke, 3.5 is gushing. I wish the wheel were bigger to make the adjustments finer.

I'm having no issues single-dosing it. All I've done is weight the beans, drop in, open and close the beans gate and grind. Works as well as the Vario did with the same methods.

Wow...thx for sharing. I REALLY like the fact the Ceado hopper does not have the doohickey thingamajig inside the hopper. That has bother me, but I have learned to live with it. Oh well.

Thx again for the pic

Totally jealous....The LMLM was top on my list and I had to kinda settle for the Jr Casa due to cost. I just didn't have the extra $1,500 to spring for the LMLM. Very nice setup. And love your backsplash.

BTW: my experience with the E37S grind setting is somewhat different. I find about a full 1.5-2 # variable in adjustment. I use Chris' Coffee beans and I seldom find choke to gusher unless the beans are old. The slight variable that you described is surprising???

That's what I'm finding. I'm using fresh, local roasts from the likes of Ritual, Blue Bottle, Chromatic, Verve and Counter Culture. Perhaps there's a difference in roast level or some such. But I'm finding the range between choke and gush to be somewhat narrow on the e37s.

I am finding that the grind quality is very good though, especially now that it is settling in.

More thoughts after more cups. I just need more time to drink more coffee and see what I think!

I can't wait for my Monolith to come in a couple of months. Comparing a titan conical to an 83mm flat should be really interesting!

My range is from 4 to 7 going from ristretto to double. to get a gusher i'd probably have to go around 9.
