Burr wear without beans?

Do the burrs wear out faster if you run it without coffee in it? Does the broken down beans keep the burrs from touching?

Thanks

Zeroing the burrs can involve closing the gap between them until they (just) touch. The parts of the burrs that are touching in this procedure are not the cutting parts, so there's no danger of dulling the burrs this way. In day-to-day use they are never touching, of course.

For those who are curious, this explains in more detail: Grinder burrs touching is the "kiss of death"?
