Baratza Vario W won't work! Display shows "EEE" error code

Postby mandl on Mon Dec 26, 2011 2:15 pm

After waiting several months since my old basic grinder shorted out and nearly caused a fire, my Baratza Vario W finally greeted me for Christmas. I got up early this morning to use for my overnight guests and am SO disappointed. I was able to set the weight with ease. However, when I press the start button it only grinds a few grams - anywhere between 5 and 10 (I had it programmed for 100) and then shuts off and gives me an "EEE" code. To restart it, I pushed the stop button (nothing happened). I then had to unplug it and plug it back in, at which point it erased the "EEE" code and reset. However, over and over again I only was able to grind a few grams before the "EEE" code reappeared. I did clean out the burr according the the manual as some beans had fallen down into the shaft (however I did not have the brush that was supposed to be included). Even after the cleaning, it does not work. The shop I bought it from is closed today, so I am hoping someone here can help. I am resigned to probably having to send it back.

Hi Mimi,
Sorry about your Vario-W not working properly. I am hoping a simple re-calibration of the scale will do the trick to get you fixed up. Please go to
http://www.baratzallc.com/troubleshooting/
for instructions on how to recalibrate the scale function for the Vario-W. If this doesn't solve it, please call us at 425-641-1245, our support team is here today (12/26).

Wow! Baratza's customer service is amazing! Kyle, their president, responded immediately to this post and I spoke to them by phone. They walked me through the recalibration process, but unfortunately that did not solve the problem.
So, a new machine is on its way to me already. I hope to soon post that the new one works fine. In any event, I would definitely rate their customer service as an A plus! Thanks Baratza.
