I'd recommend searching here. There are several Vario owners posting on HB, and they would be your best resource, as opposed to the "well I heard that the Vario..." sort of thing.

I should have mentioned I've read all the Vario threads there and my choice is based upon that. This is just sort of a final, "hey any last comments or input before I do this" kind of thread.

Nikolai...Baratza stands behind their products. If you're not happy, return it.
But like all new purchases, give it some time, as it's definitely a different than the normal Mazzer type.
Close up in Atlanta, it did it's job quietly (well, for a grinder anyway) and the espresso grind seemed to be all as promised. They demonstrated a drip grind...nice, no appreciable dust.
Please keep us informed, after you've had a week or so to get used to the new toy.
We can wait.

I have been using my brother's Baratza Vario while staying at his house. It has been holding up well to the notoriously finicky Europiccola, but produces a lot of fines, at the coarsest setting, when used for a French Press.

Doug...I just a friends to mess with..it had some issues, which , after 4 hours I was able to straighten out.
I will post a(hopefully) interesting and (even more hopefully) educational collection of paragraphs regarding my semi "resurrection" of my friends Vario, Serial # 189!

Well so far I've had an afternoon to play around and it seems I may have a faulty unit. Most of the time when I hit start, the timer starts counting down but the grinder does nothing. A light smack on the side gets things going but this is not a proper solution. Also, I wish the PF holder was adjustable to fit a bottomless PF. Basically I have to grind into the bucket and then pour into my PF. On the plus side there is already much less clumping than my Grinta.

Make sure you've screwed in the hopper clockwise till it CLICKS in. You'll feel it.

Oh so there's a safety switch with the hopper? Maybe I'm right on the edge so that sometimes it engages and sometimes not. I'll have a look when I'm home.

Anyone come up with a solution for using a bottomless PF?
