Baratza Vario owners... how are things? - Page 10

Postby Whale on Sat Dec 19, 2009 6:17 pm

I plugged in my new B-Vario this morning.

Although it is grinding just fine (a bit of static) I am sorry to report that I am one of these 2% unlucky owners that Kyle was taking about... My display goes blank as well... :(

Maybe is an old-stock unit. What is the serial number? Having read all the positive posts I am sure Baratza will sort it out for you.

It is serial number #726.

From what I have read, I am also confident that it will be sorted out.

When perusing Orphan's home page I found that they now have the new front panel update with display and electronics for the Vario so you can upgrade earlier ones. Other dealers may also have them. Check where you bought yours.. I can not believe how cheap!

Hello everyone.

I have stumbled on something on Coffeegeek. I do not know if it has been posted or discussed here but there is a guy (Walter) that made a template of numbered scales for both micro and macro adjustmentse to put on the B-Vario.

Here's the link: http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/g...429#460429

There has been a bit of a discussion and it does not make unanimity, but I printed it and and installed on my B-Vario. It fits perfectly with every detents of the adjustment.

I thought that it was a good idea worth sharing with you.

Enjoy.

I printed the templates, cut them out, and laid them down on strips of scotch tape. Very cool!

I've actually been getting a bit of static in the last couple months. I suspect it's the cold dry winter air. Anyone else?

I don't get any here and never have (but perhaps the difference is that here it is dry, but only just below freezing?). -Hugh

It has been my experience that the B-Vario is produces more static with certain type of beans. The dry air surely doesn't help and just aggravates the problem.

I am spending a lot of my thinking time into trying to find an elegant solution for the static issue that I have because I love the grinder and love the beans that are so "staticky".

The best idea that I have found so far is to use a conductive metal funnel (instead of the proverbial yogurt cup) in the P/F that is wired to the ground pin of the grinder. I am posting this tentatively because my B-Vario is temporarly disabled and I cannot experiment on this further. but it might be helpful to someone right now.

I grind into the bucket and then pour into the PF. I'm finding that a lot of the grind clings to the bucket and I have to knock the bucket and shake the last bits out a few times. I don't use the fork as it doesn't work with a bottomless. I'm hoping for a simple solution rather than something that adds extra fiddle to my routine. part of the problem could be the plastic bucket itself.
