I have this same problem of not being able to get a coarse enough grind for even drip filter brew. I have a 2010 model Vario that has the 2mm allen calibration screw, and while it can get powdery fine, the screw comes out before anything resembling coarse. Has anyone discovered a definitive cause/solution to this issue? I have an email in to Baratza, but will probably phone on Monday.

BTW, any trick for removing the top burr carrier? I can't get my fingers in there enough for good purchase on the unit.
