As a potential Sette purchaser the thing that I need to know before I would actually buy one is a build date or serial number after which the issues are not present. Saying the issues are now fixed doesn't help potential customers because we don't know how much pre-built stock of faulty units is already with the shops waiting to be sold to us....

I don't have a link, I did not read it, I had a long talk with Baratza at SCA.

I'm not going to. I try to respect the confidence of people who talk to me. I thought long and hard about saying what I did, but I decided I could say that much. I promise that the motor problem has been fixed, how many problem ones are out there I can't say, but if you're worried I'd ask Baratza if they will consider the warranty for motors in units with serial numbers in the problem range will be extended indefinitely. I can't answer that question, but it would not surprise me if the answer was yes.

Because of how things travel through distribution, it's really hard to figure out where everything is. Right now if someone calls me and says I got your switch and my dash lights stay on, I just ask for an address and send a new one, no when did you buy it or is it still in warranty. Everything I've ever heard about Baratza would indicate they have a similar attitude. But ask them if you're worried.

I have a 270W scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Based on my correspondence with Baratza, I am hoping the serial number starts with 17...

Whats the 17 supposed to mean? Made in the year 2017??
If thats the case, is it supposed to be latest revision with the best available fixes?

That is a massively strong statement to be making.

Do you work for Baratza technical development or supply the motors? because that is the sort of "feel good" statement that should actually come from the manufacturer, not a 1/2 finished, provoking statement from some guy off the net, that feels a bit sensitive about backing it up...odd behaviour.

And look, i respect confidential information, but its all a bit moot really isnt it? Look at the big picture...What is it youre actually protecting? Youve asked the question, being convinced of the answer and i think people just want to know how it is that you can back your assurances.

Everybody knows about the big defective commutator issue, its public domain stuff. Baratza have done what any good company would do, and offer technical advice or motor replacement.

What would be ideal, and i think fair, is that the buyers are made aware of what range of serials are affected. That this information is in the first instance provided through their product registration service and in second, on their website faq...otherwise spill the beans son

It is the first two digits of the serial number. I don't know if it corresponds to the year of manufacture or not.
