FedEx just dropped my 270W off - haven't tested it yet, but I did unbox it and noticed that mine does have the updated rubber sleeves on the forks, as well as the updated flange to hold the portafilter.

Spent the past hour trying to dial in my Sette W, and have a few issues.

1) This one isn't and issue so much as a gripe, but instructions in the box are sparse, no mention of how to adjust the top portafilter holder. Dug out my allen wrenches and blindly found one that locked into the hole below the top fork and was able to adjust. Was a little nervous not knowing if that was the correct place to adjust or not.

2)I am set to 18g dose and it NEVER is accurate, usually stopping at 15.1 to15.3 grams. There doesn't seem to be a button to push to add a little more to an underdosed basket, but it isn't even close to the requested dose.

3)I am at the finest grind setting and it is barely fine enough to pull a good shot. If I were to use a denser bean down the road, I am fairly certain it would not be fine enough. As I am at the finest setting, there is no more adjustment to dial in.

Feeling like I just wasted a bunch of cash and am likely going to return if I can't figure it out. Started the process using an out of date Colombian medium roast because I new I would waste some coffee dialing in, but moved to a bag of Sight Glass Owl's Howl espresso for a few pulls but with the same results.

Tony, did you get the standard Sette over the W? Interested in hearing your feedback once you've used it for a while. I'm in the same boat single dosing a K10. And don't have big bucks for a Monolith. Cheers

1) Baratza does better than written instructions, they have very detailed videos to explain how to do everything from adjusting the hook, to removing the center burr assembly. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFXV9KHCTzJlhrKDbDkYYlw

2) Portafilter needs to be very level. Do not touch the machine or portafilter while grinding. If you push and hold the grind button it will switch to manual grind mode. Pressing any of the presets returns it to auto mode.

3) Baratza has shims to move the center burr closer to the outer burr and increase the fineness of the grind. Mine doesn't need it. I'm pretty much between 5 and 6 on the coarse dial.

If you didn't get the updated portafilter pieces, just email Baratza. They turned around and sent a package to me within 2 hours of me sending them an email. Gotta love their support!

My 270W arrived yesterday and have been dialing in for espresso, currently at 7D with good results. I didn't need to adjust the portafilter holder as my bottomless hung level out of the box on the redesigned holder. I set preset one for 17g and have had the following outputs thus far: 13.3, 17.2, 17.4, 17.5, 16.5, 17.5, and 17.3g. I verified that the grinder's scale is accurate within 0.1g. Repeatability is worse than I had hoped - looking forward to the release of the Acaia BrewBar app which purportedly will improve results.
Wasted power consumption and unnecessary lights vex me so I was happy to see that the LCD backlight and green preset indicator LED shut off eventually (haven't verified when this happens, estimate it's on the order of 5 minutes) as it doesn't have a master on/off switch. Power consumption on standby is below 0.3W.
LCD display is clear and sharp when viewed from above but if you were to view from below you'd have issues, an unlikely arrangement I'd wager.
I have access to acoustic measurement equipment so I want to characterize it but will subjectively say while it's louder than my old grinder it doesn't bother me in tonal harmonics or intensity, IMHO.
Really enjoying the workflow of hang, grind, shake level, and tamp. Retention appears minimal but I have not measured to quantify.

2) You might take a scale and verify it stops at 15.1. Sometimes the scale on the machine reads short, but measuring on a separate scale finds it within about 0.1gm...Leveling the portafilter is important and it is very important that it not rock. If you dig a bit you will find there is an adjustable leg on the bottom to address that. The acacia strain gauge is very sensitive to movement. There is a manual online http://www.baratza.com/wp-content/uploa ... 70W-en.pdf (and a FAQ) that discusses these items; and also what button to push to manually burst or grind more on page 7...Also covered in their demo video (hold the start button down and release when done)

3) Not a problem for my machine, I am at 5 on the large scale, however they do state in the manual how to use a supplied washer to make the grind even finer. If it isn't in the box, just email them.

Calm, oh caffeinated one.....

You might check and make sure the feet are adjusted to keep the grinder from any rocking. There should be no movement when trying to rock it on the counter. According to Baratza this is very important as the strain gauge can do weird things if the grinder is not stable during vibrating/grinding. Not sure if that is your problem, but strain gauges are generally pretty consistent....
No master switch...yes, although motor power is cut by rotating the hopper from its locked position...

Got my Sette 270W today... initial impressions are good however relatively new to the hobby (I've been using a Saeco Odea Automatic for the past 5 years which had been producing sludge for the past year so I finally retired it)

I bought a Gaggia Classic used a week ago, (was in great shape hardly used) and have had much better results, originally grinding with the Baratza Encore but found the small grind slow and coming out chunky.

Question on the new Sette - I started at a grind setting of 5 and nothing came out, move up to 7 and it was about a 30-40 second shot, at 9 I seem to be pulling a 25 second shot - is this to be expected for the Gaggia with this Grinder? or could my pressure be off given I bought the Gaggia used?

Looking forward to the bluetooth features!

Could you expand a bit on why you expected the Sette to be less consistent than your Lido 3?
Thx,
Chris
