Are these new burrs defective?

Postby Hoenen on Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:42 pm

Got a MACAP MXA at home, been using my burrs for a year or two after having bought it second-hand, so I thought to switch my burrs!

Here is a close up of my old burrs:

(Yeah, I love that lens being able to zoom into the small coffee flakes :) )

So my new burrs arrived, and immediately I saw that they had more defections. Next to some oxidised spots (which I dont care a lot for) also a lot of dents. Here's a close up:

Are these new burrs in any way acceptable? Should I use them, return them, or keep for later use when my current burrs are more broken down?

Those new burr is ugly - send it back with a print of the photo. Personally, I would also tell them to refund the shipping both ways.

They don't look good. Were they cheap?

not really, 51 EUR, ~74 USD ~46 GBP, at quite a reputable espresso shop. Will be contacting them again though... maybe my current burrs are of higher quality steel?
