Which way to turn Macap stepless to make the grind coarser?

OK, I can't seem to figure out which way to turn the dial on the macap stepless to make the grind coarser! The number in the front center of the machine is 7. To make the grind courser, do I bring the 8 to the front or the 6?

(Sorry Dan, I haven't done the thing where I take the burrs to touching...I'm hoping to use the dial)

6->8 means coarser. If u face the knob counter clock make it coarser.

To make it very simple just think of it this way, bigger number means bigger grind, i.e. coarser. From your zero point, the point where your burrs just begin to touch, back it off 2 1/2 full numbers and start there. That should be very close to the correct grind. Don't forget when I say "back it off" I mean go to a higher number by 2 1/2 numbers.

My confusion is because there is no place to line the numbers up to (ie a little arrow or something on the machine.) So if I use the front of the machine as the alignment point, I am rotating the ring clockwise to get to a bigger number. But if the numbers are supposed to be aligned at the knob in the back, then rotating the ring clockwise makes the number smaller!

Huh? The direction of rotation is relative to the grinder as you use it, with the doser facing you. The collar rotating clockwise = coarser, counter-clockwise = finer. Same direction as the Mazzer Mini.

The turning knob, not collar. You can't turn the collar on the stepless. Turn the knob counter-clock the collar rotates count-clock.

Yeah, but the confusing thing about that statement is that there are adjustment knobs on either side and they will rotate in opposite directions; i.e., if you are turning the knob on the right side (as you face the grinder) clockwise, the knob on the left side will be turning counter-clockwise.

So if you turn the knob on the right side of the grinder (as you face it) counter-clockwise then the dial will turn clockwise and the grind will become more coarse. If you are turning the knob on the right to make the grind more coarse then turn it clockwise. If you make a reference mark (using a marker, tape, etc.) on the front of your grinder, you will see that you are tending toward higher numbers. Good luck!
