I have a desire to roast my own coffee cause I like espresso.I can't really find a taste that I like from products available. Lavazza would be a best choice. But Lavazza is quite expensive.I grew up in Europe where drinking good espresso was a part of the culture and good manners.
Since I'm fairly new to the technical site of coffee roasting I like to ask a question to the numerous experienced experts:
Where to find green coffee beans in US and what is the criteria for bean selection?
I know it is kind of large topic to discuss but seems to me it would be a good start.
Thank you in advance to all who replied.

I'm not an active homeroaster, but I can share what I've gleaned from following the reports of others...

Jim Schulman is a moderator on this site and CoffeeGeek, active on alt.coffee, and somehow has enough time to co-author reviews for coffeecuppers.com. Their resources page is rich with recommended homeroasting sites (e.g., homeroasters.org and Sweet Maria's, which has a particularly strong following). I suppose the criteria for beans selection depends on what you wish to blend; An Aficionado's Guide to Espresso Blending covers the basics.

For more details, I'll defer to those who actually do homeroast.

While I've not purchased any beans from Fresh Coffee Beans, I did recently attend a sampling session for beans roasted in a Behmor 1600. All were excellent.

Michel is committed to providing excellent coffee at competitive prices.

Another one I have had success with follows:

They don't have quite as large a selection as some sites but they do have good beans. The Costa Rica Orosi valley estate is especially good.
