What beans to start with?

Discuss roast levels and profiles for espresso, equipment for roasting coffee.

I have decided to give home roasting a try. I plan to purchase an iRoast 2 and I need help with choosing beans to start with.

I drink FP, Chemex drip, and the occasional latte prepared on my old cheap Krups pump machine (soon to be upgraded if I can ever make up my mind). I tend to like coffee with some body. One of my recent favorites is Peet's Major Dickenson. Any tips on what I should order to start out? Should I consider some blends?

Thanks for your help

Heidi -

I am very much a beginner when it comes to roasting, so consider my comments accordingly.

I have experimented with several SO's, and a few of Sweet Maria's more popular blends. I have gotten some good (and some not so good) results. Probably the most reliable blend I have used has been Moka Kadir (Sweet Maria's). I haven't managed to screw it up too many times :)

I have also gotten mostly good results using SM's Liquid Amber.
