I'm thinking of taking my lever with me on the airplane as carry-on luggage next week when going down to Florida. I will carry in my Filson bag.

Since I don't have a portable grinder, I plan on bringing pre-ground illy coffee.

I'm not overly concerned with the TSA in regards to the La Pavoni.

Anyone know if they will be okay w/ can's of Illy coffee as carry on? Does it matter if they are opened or sealed?

(I'm asking here rather than the Lever section, since its not a Lever specific question).

Look on the Tsa Website or call your local checkpoint. I used to be a screener: if it is carry on, it will be xrayed, unopened. If checked baggage, if it is unopened with the manufacturers' original packaging intact, unless it alarms for explosives, it should be okay. Some common household substances, like glycerin handcreams, can set off the ETD machines. So, keep the can clean, and hopefully, you should be fine.
A word to the wise, Don't carry wrapped presents! Wrap them when you get there!!! Or be prepared to rewrap.

Why bring the can? Put the coffee in a sealed ziplock bag. Less weight, less bulk, no problem.
