I was considering a K10 and this certainly is a good practical Thread while considering! Thanks :D

Hello all,

It has been a while since I have posted updates to this. I was interested in getting thoughts on a possible full/partial conversion to a Fresh. While I have mastered using my eye to get a the right amount in each basket my wife seems to struggle since the dosing for more the one shot ends up being way too easy for her to lose balance.

Her routine is to weigh out the right number of grams for the shots (usually two at a time) put the beans in the grinder and grind. She always ends up putting in too much or to little for the first shot. The grinder grinds so quickly so more often then not her shots end up front-end lopsided.

Weighing in between each shot tends to not be an option for her. The fact that I could get her weighing at all is progress. Putting aside that fact that she agreed to let me put this massive grinder on the counter in the first place.

So I am torn with buying another grinder like the Vario (least favorite option for us both) or exploring a full fresh conversion for this great grinder.

I thought about adding a timer of some kind as well but figured I would at least explore the possibility of full conversion first to see how far we could go with retrofit.

Has anyone done a conversion of the Compak Conic or Pro Barista to a fresh? I did a search and could not find anything...

I would welcome and appreciate thoughts on the possibilities.

Thanks

John,

You seem to overtook (like most people, so don't feel bad...), that you have the doser, not the doserless model. Take a moment to contemplate on the word DOSER. Did you get an aha moment? :-)

Each doser chamber is about 4 to 6 grams and is adjustable by turning the cone in the middle. So for example if your shot is 18g, adjust the chamber to 6g and fill 3 chambers into the basket.

Start grinding.
Watch as first chamber fills up.
Move the handle once.
Watch as the second chamber fills up.
Repeat to fill the third.
Stop grinder (or don't)
Fill up the basket with these first 3 chambers. 1,2,3. Done.

You just need to learn how to use the doser, as a DOSER. ;)

No....I must not give in to using the doser... It is no longer on my machine for a reason. Anyone want an unused doser? I have all parts.
