I currently use a 53mm tamper to prevent it on my SJ. Any reason why I couldn't do the same thing if I had the Vario?IMAWriter wrote:Folks, though the Vario's popcorning isn't a huge problem, I did notice a bit of a loose pull when I was down to the last 14 grams or so.

Yes, a purge is smart, and without measuring, I would guess no more than 3 grams stale grind are retained. Overnight was where I encountered a bit of next day 1st shot problem. A 2 hour wait between shots didn't seem to make much difference.
Still, I have to think a quick purge of a 3 grams (after a 2 hour break) ain't no biggie.
heck, Per day, with THIS high octane crowd, that's probably no more than 6 grams per day.

yes, Bill. I mean, NO it wouldn't work, as there is the trademark Baratza raised dome, which actually helps to control popcorning very well in the first place.BillK wrote:I currently use a 53mm tamper to prevent it on my SJ. Any reason why I couldn't do the same thing if I had the Vario?

I think the best thing is just use up what you have, or turn the grinder upside down (way easier than with the mighty SJ) and dump the beans back into a bag, then change grind.
I love this grinder with a 1/3 full hopper (at least)

Ok I've had this Grinder for about a month now and I have to say i love this thing. It's the perfect grinder for my needs. It grinds consistently, it's SIMPLE to use, you get almost all of what you put in, and it doesn't take up much room. Oh and it's it's very quiet.
