My wife and I just placed an order for a brand new all Elektra espresso setup. It will be replacing an aging but still kicking Faema Family (after 15 years of service). It's gonna be a while till it gets here - not your usual "in-stock" items:
Mini Verticale chrome
Grinder chrome
Dinamometric Tamper
S/S Knock Box
to round out the insanity 12 demi and cappuccino cups

Thank you all for the great information you provide. We are reading up on all kinds of subjects to prepare for our equipment upgrade.

We'll be back with photos and I am sure with questions when we get set up.

Elektra Mini Verticale (part of the Family Retro series)

I haven't seen a lengthy writeup of the Mini Verticale, but Mark approached thesis-level detail in his Microcasa Semi Automatica, much of which should apply to your machine.

We always wanted an espresso machine in the Belle Epoque design but never saw one that would fit the space and practical requirements of our home. After learning about the MV it was Mark's write-up about the SA, a very helpful sales manager of Elektra Australia and finally Chris' account of his visit to the Elektra factory in Italy that gave us the confidence to go ahead with the purchase.

We were a little concerned at first about the MV not being a HX machine, but since we mostly drink straight espresso this should not be of big concern to us.

I'll post pictures and a report as soon as we have it installed.

That is an understatement. The Elektra A3 is "plain Jane" next to the Mini Verticale, and the A3 is already gorgeous. I've also seen a few Belle Epoque installations and they are indeed centerpieces of the room.

Uh, I dunno about this. Hmmm...Seems like a safety hazard to me.

After all, all I'd wanna to is rub myself all over it whether it's on or off, hot or cold.

I have said it several times, Elektra makes the best looking machines on the market (except for the speedster). I have always liked the classic lines, they are as much a work of art as functional machine. I am looking forward to your photos.

Hi. My Miniverticale has just arrived!! I'm in the UK, and it's 230v power supply is fitted with a foreign plug! Shouldn't take me long to get it up and running. It looks simply stunning...

I still need to buy a new grinder. I note you've gone for an Elektra to match? Do you have any idea on the specification? I'm trying to find out. Did you go for it because it matches?

I'd like to join the Elektra fan club. I am hooked on the Semi-Automatica myself and have the grinder to match.

Although I haven't actually been using the Mini Verticale, I had a chance to check one out in a store here in Copenhagen. It seems the boiler is fairly small and that it is a single boiler, not HX, which made me wonder if it is more show than utility. I'll be very interested in performance notes once you get going - and pictures of the internals (c:

Congratulations to your new Mini Verticale.

The decision for the Elektra Grinder was purely on looks. As far as I know they are built by Macap, but I could be wrong there.

I'd be very interested how you like the MV once it's hooked up. Do you have any photos to post?
