I was schmoozing at the Western Restaurant Show today and had an interesting chat with Craig Min of La Mill, an L.A. area wholesale roaster. Craig's staff were pulling shots on one of those beautiful Faema Jubiles, which I was ogling, when he mentioned that Faema had started production on a one-group version for home use. He wasn't sure of their price, and I see it isn't described yet on the Faema website. But, with its updated electronics and gorgeous looks, this machine should be worth a serious look when more information is available.

I heard the new one-group Legend that was supposed to be featured at the Charlotte SCAA conference (also mention in Heard any rumour of one-group Faema E61 Legend?). Did anyone see it? A few seconds with google found a picture of it on the UK site Caffe Italia. 4400 euros (~5500 USD). None of the esteemed HB equipment sponsors (1st-line, espressoparts.com, Chris' Coffee Service) have mentioned it (sniff!).

It could have been the Legend, instead of the Jubile. I didn't realize they looked so similar, and I wasn't focused on whether it had a levetta or push buttons (I was concentrating on a new blend they were trying out). I may learn more this week.

Do you honestly think that Joan would allow something that looked like THAT in her kitchen?Marshall wrote:I was schmoozing at the Western Restaurant Show today and had an interesting chat with Craig Min of La Mill, an L.A. area wholesale roaster. Kitchen? You mean my espresso bar. I'm thinking it would match up nicely with the GS3. I could ask guests "Do you prefer heat exchanger or double boiler shots?"

I thought you might say that. But it is clearly visible from the kitchen and the dining area . . . .

I have again "decloaked" myself to offer up what I know about the E-61 machine that has been re-introduced by Cimbali/Faema.
Presently plans for the E-61 single group are limited to 220 volt.
For many enthusiasts, this is a tall order as most wives will assuredly balk at opening walls to run a 220 line from the box.
We are encouraging the engineers to release a 110 volt unit for the USA to compete directly in the HB market.
This may be considered to compete with the GS3 only on looks alone (alas the GS3 is somewhat of an ugly ducking).
On a technocal note I can say that with the exceptions of the restrictions that UL and ETL place on machines entering the American market, the E-61 is an exact replica of its notable ancestor.
All things considered, it will probably (since the E-61 group is quite primitive by todays Cimbali/Faema standards) look better than it will pull shots.
For those interested in a revolution in shot extraction.......bide your time......Cimbali is planning away as we speak.
Best regards,
TJ
