The Favorite Espresso Blends 2011 and 2010 reviews proved popular, so let's do it again! But to keep it interesting, we'll be changing the structure this year:
  • Evaluations will be blind: Reviewers will not know what espresso is being evaluated until they post their commentary.
  • To add an element of surprise, members will nominate a roaster, not a specific blend (suggested blends will be considered, but not voted on).
  • One or two "guest reviewers" will be invited from the site's membership to contribute to the review.
I would like to seed the nomination list with the following roasters among the site sponsors:
Please post what roasters you'd like to see in this year's review and optionally what blends. After a few days, I'll create a poll based on the site members' recommendations.

Ain't going to happen.

I think most of these roasters are reviewed well already. I wish HB went little bit off the beaten path and reviewed not well known but deserving roasters. We readers would benefit to find out about them and roasters would love to be found. Suggestions:

How about Phil and Sebastian from Canada, Calgary?

EDIT
Why do i like Phil and Sebastian? Well, these two former engineers decided to follow their passion for coffee and leave their safe desk jobs. They were initially home baristas like us and decided to take it a step further, open a cafe and, why not, start a roasting business. They travel to farms and co-ops and cup coffee on the spot. Now that's living the life!

I dunno, i wish i had the b*lls to do that, but in the meantime, i will keep enjoying their excellent espresso roasts from Costa Rica and Guatemala. For those who like bright espresso.
Damn this forum, I've had too m..muh...mah..mmmm..much caffeine!

Another post about Dogwood because I think they deserve the attention:

I don't know if Grumpy is flying below the radar or not, but they've been producing some consistent roasts with unique flavor profiles for many years. Grumpy's Heartbreaker blend is always in rotation here, alongside Barrington #165 and various Counter Culture offerings.

Reunion Island From the great white north. Us canadians are always looking fo a good budget coffee (our redbird). I think this may be it. You can get a kilo (2.2lbs) of their bullet espresso for under 30 bucks shipped and it is as good as any other coffee I've tried.

What happened to the Canadian roaster review(s) from 2011? People's Daily from Social was a favourite in the nomination thread, and they even ship to the States for free, so it's actually accessible to most non-Canadian forum members.

http://www.sweetmarias.com (I get a lot of my green beans from them and would like the experts to comment on their coffees. You can get their beans roasted)

It would be helpful if those posting nominations included a few sentences explaining why they're nominating a roaster, especially if they're "not well known but deserving roasters".
