I'll be in Philly for the holidays and am interested in local specialty coffee... not all that interested in Counter Culture / Stumptown shops. Recommendations?

"La colombe" downtown, 3 shops down from the Ritz Carlton next to city hall.

Elixr is #1!!! 207 South Sydenham. It is between 15th and 16th between Locust and Walnut.
They serve PT's Southpaw and usually have one guest. I just helped them hook up their new Synesso Hydra about two weeks ago; it is working quite nicely.
All the baristas are excellent and knowledgable. Beautiful rosettas and short delicious espressos.
And if you have your mtb, check out the trails in the Wissahickon.

I'm going to definitely check out La Colombe only because of the wretched nonsense that is sputtered by Todd Carmichael. I probably owe him about $5.37 in sales for the comedy.

Are there any other local roasters apart from Colombe and Chestnut Hill?

Chestnut Hill is where I go. Nice area as well especially this time of the year. They decorate the town nice, and there is a very good sushi shop just across the street, Osaka. They also have a real bakery, specialty shops, etc... nice place to walk around.

Next time you plan to go, Dave, email me. A trip to CHC and Baker Street is always a good idea.

Btw , this afternoon my wife reported she had a good shot at la colombe. She was in a jam and had no choice but was very surprised. Maybe things have changed there, so please report back Marshall. My last two experiences there were a lesson in how not to make drinks so I finally gave up going there.
