I got a good deal on this grinder at a local estate sale:

It out performs my Rocky to the point where I haven't used the Rocky in weeks. I haven't read much about this La Pavoni grinder. How comparable is it to a Mazzer Super Jolly? Reason I ask is because i'm pondering selling both and getting a Mazzer. But if this Pavoni grinder is comparable I may just marry it to my Silvia. It is grinding very well at the moment.

According to those people its an Obel Bregant EB. Which is numerously rebranded.
Here's an exploded view:

If one's motto is "bigger burrs are better" then yes, the Zip is better than a Mazzer.
@RapidCoffee, stupid me, I thought I read 64.5mm burrs. Anyway, I don't know which one is better.

Huh? This depends on the Mazzer model. Super Jolly burrs are 64mm, Pavoni Zip (according to Internet info) are 63.5mm.

I'm guessing these are fairly comparable grinders, in terms of grind quality. Build quality? Usability? No idea.

Thanks for your comments. The 2nd poster has me totally confused as I did not know these models get re-branded. Anyway this Zip grinder seems to grind alot finer than my Rocky. The ease in which it grinds makes me think it will last a lifetime (with Burr replacements ofcourse). Maybe I will just keep both and use the Rocky for FP and drip.

If you like the grinder ergonomics, keeping it is the thing to do. If you like the one you have, and you drink drip/french press, you'll be a lot happier with 2 dedicated grinders than you would with slightly better (if even that--I would bet indistinguishable) espresso from a Mazzer Super Jolly. Mazzers are great grinders (IMO the best--I've had four!), but changing grind from espresso to drip/french press is NOT something they are good at.

Did I confuse anyone?
I'll try to give a summary:
-The Pavoni Zip is a beefy commercial grinder
-The Pavoni Zip is actually an Obel Bregant EB rebrand

Here is another thread about your Pavoni Zip aka. Bregant EB:
Bregant grinder on eBay .. good deal for someone?

There is one on eBay that I'm watching, and it looks like a really good grinder, but it's used. I wasn't sure the level of this, is it comparable to a Mazzer Super Jolly or Mini?

I currently have the Gaggia MDF burr grinder, so I imagine it's better than that one, but need to upgrade soon because I think mine is going on the fritz soon.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. Suzanne

I believe the La Pavoni Zip grinder is a rebadged Obel Bregant EB grinder. Places that sell replacement burrs sell the same ones for both the La Pavoni and Obel Bregant grinders. I have not used this model, but I've got the Obel Bregant DSQ grinder and I think it works really well. I don't have any experience with any Mazzers, so I'll let others comment on that.
