I'm looking for straight espresso, and prefer smoky, tobacco, brandy, dark, chocolate, sweet flavors without citrus. What would be some blends to try if I order online? Counterculture 46? Black Cat Classic?
p.s.
Having some trouble finding local roasters using google, and nobody to ask around here I'm on Long Island NY.
I know there are some obviously in Manhattan and I see one in Queens. How does one find good local roasters?

Paradise Roaster's Havana blend might be what you are looking for.

I'm a huge fan of Sumatras and I've really been digging Fundamental Coffee Co roasts:

So far I've tried both their Sumatra Tapanuli and their Humbucker Blend.
If in addition to "smoky, tobacco, brandy, dark, chocolate, sweet flavors" you're also ok with "earthy", I'd suggest giving them a try. I've really be liking them.

Their Brazil St Ines is a good chocolately blend as well. Not super smokey but not citrusy.JohnB. wrote:Paradise Roaster's Havana blend might be what you are looking for.

Not to derail the thread but I just received my order of this in the mail today and wonder if you have any hints for it? Thanks!
Back to the OP, I've usually thought Red Bird, my fall-back espresso option, to be quite smoky and not citrusy. Easy to get consistent results from a novice like me too. But this is a commonly talked about espresso here. Good to hear of the Havana one, I may try that sometime as well.

Peets Espresso Forte will definitely fit. Very nice dark roasted blend.

Cafe Lusso's Lionshare comes to mind as a nice example of this style.

Nothing too crazy. Some of my best shots were pretty standard parameters. Needs a lower temp, but I was using a 20g VST. 198F, 20g in 40g out. ~35s total shot time with a 5s pre.MNate wrote:Not to derail the thread but I just received my order of this in the mail today and wonder if you have any hints for it? Snickers Bar espresso = Buena Vista Roaster's Black Canyon Blend. Pull it right (not too hot and in the 1 to 1.5 range) and you'll get milk chocolate, caramel, nut and sweet sweet sweet.
No Espresso = Depresso
