When to replace valve bags

I've been homeroasting for nearly a year now and keep my beans in valve bags from Sweet Marias. They are starting to smell a little stale between uses and I'm wondering if there is a rule of thumb for how much use you get out of them. Thanks!

I've been wondering the same thing. I use the 1/4 lb. clear ones since I'm roasting with the Fresh Roast (I also use Ball jars). I'm guessing you're using the Matte White ones (?)

Yep, matte white.

I made the mistake of putting ground coffee in a couple of them one time. (Upon 2nd or 3rd glance I realized it expressly says not to do that at the bottom of the product page on their site

) But regardless, they all smell stale...

That smell is residual oil, rancid. When that smell occurs, toss them.
