Thank you for these pictures Hank!
I didn't know the mercury has an insulated drum, just like the kaldi fortis.

If you could inquire about the fortis with your relative, that would be super!
I've mailed back and forth with the people who make the kaldi line, but the language barrier makes it difficult to get into the finer details/workings of the machines.

Hong (Seinn Tech) told me that the Fortis could go as low as 300 grams and the Classic as low as 200 grams.

And surprisingly heavy to pick up.
The drop door represents the front plate thickness that's in contact with the beans, 8mm steel.

I need to go back and explore Martin's ideas about the thick drum on an electric machine. One question I had, is the drum too thick? Feima's thick cast iron drums have no issue releasing heat during the RD phase, what about the Mercury? Or maybe the thick drum changes the dynamics of a very small roaster? I'd like to see a batch roasted using a "low and slow" profile to full city

Good post: I was wondering if you know in more detail what his ideas are on thicker drums and electric machines.
-what would be the pro's and con's of a thicker drum?
- why doesn't other mini roasters like the quest or Huky use a thicker drum?

Thanks

No not yet but will definitely ask. 5mm steel drum on a tiny roaster is out of the norm, making the Huky and Quest normal.
