I will be visiting Iowa City, IA for son's college tour in next month. He may become a Hawkeye and given such I'll need to find a good café when Boss and I visit him. I will café hop if he decides ultimately to matriculate there. But would like fellow H-B.com opinions what to visit on the upcoming tour.

Search does not bring up much:
Mom & Pop shop owner needs espresso equipment recommendations

Yelp.com brings up suggestions but I'll trust fellow H-B.com members first.

Thank you in advance.

No other replies to my original post so I will post reply.

Just returned from University of Iowa, Iowa City campus tour for my son. Before campus tour I chose to go to Prairie Lights Books and Cafe. I based this solely on yelp.com reviews and since they have pourover for brew coffee (indication to me they likely passionate about good coffee). They do not roast their own beans and use Stumptown roaster.

I had an espresso Hairbender and overall very good. My son had a pourover Ethiopia Mordecofe and also overall very good.

Espresso equipment: La Marzocco pump machine (could not see front of machine and I was in somewhat rush to not be late for tour start) and two Mazzer Super Jolly grinders.

Good ambiance and plentiful seating. Being that it was upstairs but still in bookstore, ambient volume quiet which I like.

Overall: I recommended and if my son matriculates at U of Iowa then I will be returning to this cafe again.
