Missing older private messages - bug or feature?

I was just trying to find some older PM-conversations I had with senior hb-members - and to my astonishment there were only messages from the past few months in my inbox (April 2015 till now)

I had never created any folders, drafts, whatsoever, and my inbox had been far from being full...

Are messages automatically deleted after a given time - or had there been a database problem?

(if I missed the already public information on this somehow despite my extensive search - please feel free to close and delete this after enlightening me ...

)

Sorry about that, PMs are deleted after 180 days.

This is why I chose to have email notifications sent for PMs; the emails contain the full text of the PMs thanks to Dan's coding. Love that feature. To enable it, go to inbox > board preferences tab > edit notification options and check "email" for the bottom notification type concerning PMs.
