It sounds like you need what is commonly referred to as the 'pre-millenium' portafilter, which takes a 49mm basket. The first and second generation Pavoni groups use this size (and perhaps some of the early third gen?).

Not sure about your location, but PFs are available from Espresso Care (http://espressocare.com/) and owner Stefano is active on these forums. You can get a bottomless from HBer Gabor here: http://www.naked-portafilter.com/ I have one of his PFs and can vouch for their high quality.

49mm portafilters work for the 1st and 2nd generation, not the third, which has a slightly larger group. Yours is 2nd generation. Another source of bottomless portafilters is Cafelat, which makes an inexpensive and high quality version you can also get with a removable bottom.

If you want a bottomless portafilter the CafeLat version looks like a great piece. Knowing the quality they generally put out I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I made my PF bottomless, but if I had to buy one I'd get the CafeLat one without hesitation. Best price on a matching PF too.

I have one of the 49mm CafeLat portafilters. It is an amazingly well made thing. You can get it with an insert so that it can be bottomless or bottomed. It is made from good quality stainless steel. I put a brass handle on mine. Stainless steel is such a poor heat conductor that it hardly warms in use. I would recommend you get it with the removable "bottom".

It also fits on the Micro Casa a Leva, but I think it a bad idea to use it all time on them, because the threads are left handed on La Pavonis and right handed on MCALs. Still it makes a good test device for MCALs too. Note that you cannot put MCAL portafilters on 49mm La Pavonis, because the ears are too high to fit.

I have to confess that I original got the CafeLat portafilter as a test device, but I tend to use it always. I have 3 la Pavonis 1964, 1978, and 1999. All three La Pavonis have very different 49mm portafilters, but the CafeLat fits on them all. If you need portafilter baskets, you will find MCAL ones work fine and are readily available.

The place to buy it is: http://www.cafelatstore.com/products/la ... ortafilter

+1 for the cafelat, I also got the removable base and a couple of different spout options. Too date I have only used it as bottomless, but it's nice to have the options avIlable.
If you need portafilter baskets the Elektra microcasa acts as a good 'triple'.

The Elektra Microcasa double basket is a double. There's a good buy on those at Espressocare.com.
