Hi guys!
Ordered a new North Coffee TJ-072, which shipped with a taiwanese DER-EE 3006R data logger with two inputs. Probes and device reading are A-okay.
Currently having trouble getting Artisan to detect the device, which has an "RS232" label on the headphone jack connection to the computer via USB. I'm trying "MODBUS" in the device selection.
Complete newbie at this...
Any idea how I can connect this to a roast recording software? Using OS X.

I didnt find your logger under supported devices in Artisan, chances are it has proprietary communication protocol.
In order to have Modbus option to work you need to have a logger that supports Modbus, such as Fuji or Omega.
Sort of reverse engineering the communication protocol I just dont see how this will work.

Hi.
Is this the device?

At this time, that device does not appear in the list of devices compatible with artisan. It could be added in the future if a device was provided for testing. You can see the list of currently compatible devices here:

Well! That's a bummer.
How would I know which software might support this device? It has it's own provided software, but it's in a mini-CD and PC-only.

Thanks to Marko, Artisan supports a fairly broad variety of input devices. Of these, only a handful are compatible with Mac.
We prefer the Phidget USB interface for ease of installation on both Mac and PC: http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?product_id=1048

I think this is probably the first time this device has come up on the radar. It can be added to artisan. But first, the artisan "driver" needs to be done and the device is needed. In the past, people has temporarily sent their devices to be added to the compatibility list. This helps the artisan team bring down the cost of development. The drawback is that once the device is sent back to the owner, possible unexpected bugs are harder to repair. But once the driver is made, it should work for all platforms where artisan works (Win, Linux, and Mac).

The device list feature other RS 232 devices, but single-channel ones only. I was hoping this "RS232" would work as well.
I guess I just have to boot a PC and export to .csv for the time being.

US and Europe. But it is something that has to be arranged. And at this time, it could be shipped to the US. Devices that offer both wireless and non-wireless models are usually trickier than normal.

Well aren't we in the same boat! I was just around Europe, and having sour, underroasted coffee from third-wave places. One place that didn't disappoint was El Magnifico in Barcelona. I met the roaster, and he said something like, "no need for computer!"
Currently taking his advice. Though I'd like to get a compatible datalogger soon.
