Quick scale comparison

I did a quick video to see if I could tell the difference in response times. I think its organized from slowest to fastest. More scales in the cupboard, but i think these are probably the most popular here.

Nicely done, thanks. Two at 18.2, two at 18.1. Can the Acaia be calibrated?
Edit: looked it up and answered my own question. Yes.

I just calibrated my Acaia Pearl after reading they recommend weekly or any time you use the scale on a different surface. I've got four 500 g calibration weights to calibrate my many scales, took more presses of the Tare button to get to calibration mode than I expected.

Shawn, it's a good attempt but the results are completely irrelevant. There's no control for the specific factor your "measuring". Your hand pouring will vary enough to make the results meaningless. It's exactly like the new knife forging show on History Channel where they judge a blades cutting ability by hacking at things manually rather than using some kind of controlled device that applies the same force equally.

I pressed the T button 50 times without getting the calibration sign. On the other hand, my 500g weight reads 499.9g so I guess I'll let it go.yakster wrote:I just calibrated my Acaia Pearl after reading they recommend weekly or any time you use the scale on a different surface. I'd say I rapidly pressed the button about 20 times.

I was really only looking at the amount of time after the last bean went in to the time the scale stopped moving to get an idea of response time. I was thinking that would be a decent rough idea, at least to tell which one is faster than the other.TomC wrote:Shawn, it's a good attempt but the results are completely irrelevant. EDIT: Now that i think about it, as an extreme example, if I slammed the beans in on one, I guess it would take more time for that scale to reach a stable measurement than gently dropping in.

The load cell is still working on all the previous mass that struck it in a random fashion. Try holding a known weight about a mm over the top of the trays and release it.
