I like the concept here, but its way overkill with the thickness of both parts.
Haha, the thick aluminum billets were the only thing I had in the garage :-P. It's a straight shot into the grinder and the plunger is not too heavy.
If the plunger weight becomes an issue, I could easily lighten it.

Great idea and well executed. I have a Vario but my uncle with a Mazzer Mini just puts an old tamper over the hopperless hole :D Your solution is better.
