Mark mentioned that they were thicker than normal and ridgeless, just like the baskets in the Azkoyen (cheap spanish HX) that I used to work on. The baskets might be standard, but I thought that they were pretty good! If anyone doesn't want them, they can send them my way ;P

Cheers,

Luca

Yes, they are actually very good. It is the infamous Ascaso (LM) ridgeless and guess what it holds 18 grams.

57 of the 18g baskets
14 of the 14g baskets
4 of the 7g baskets
3 of the 21g baskets

Sorry for the hassle - I mis-interpreted your msg from 9:33pm, and had I understood it correctly, I wouldn't have imposed. But, thank you just that same for sneaking me in at the last minute.

Ok, I finally got around to testing some baskets out of our inventory and matched these to the items from Synesso.

Please remember that Synesso does not make baskets, so referring to these as Synesso baskets is incorrect and a tad bit misleading. So for reference I will use our part numbers: mz_107, mz-107A, and mz-108.

Please also remember that not everything you read from the press is fact. What I'm providing here is fact, while still providing a layer of transparency.

mz-107 holds 14 grams

mz-107a holds 18 grams

mz-108 holds 21 grams

These were all loaded with coffee ground on a Mahlkoenig VTA -6 grinder and tamped with our new test tamp.

heres the details in a photo:

And of course we are interesed....

Looks likes like I'll have the same basket that I already have.... no harm in that really!

Also, while were talking baskets (and it was alluded to by a previous post but not really addressed), do you have any idea where Espressocraft is in their basket project? I gathered they were going to make some at some point.

Part of the confusion could be the mz-107a is listed as 14 gram basket on certain websites.

I've been putting off getting an Espressocraft hoping that someday they would sell with the matching baskets. I'm really hoping that day will come soon.

Actually, I would like to know if you can verify that each of those are from the same manufacturer as the ones we're getting.

EDIT (PS) - I hope you realize that it seems to me like you're making a big deal out of this like "sour grapes", and for the life of me I can't fathom why you'd want to negate the effort being made here for the community. I have put in ALOT of work for free to get these folks something they asked for. I have answered over 120 emails in the last 2 days alone about these baskets, plus collecting monies plus contacting Synesso PLUS I have covered all the excess paypal charges on my own. All of this is to provide a contribution to the community.

So where is your "value addded" with these posts Terry? And what is "a layer of transparency"? Transparency doesn't come in layers, it's clear or it's not. And quite frankly you aren't being completely forthcoming or transparent at all, you're using your own part numbers for these products rather than making reference to the actual manufacturers so as to compare apples to apples.

Sorry to seem angry, but your posts seem aimed to diminish what I worked hard to put together and AFAIC it's a personal afront to me. At the very least we have gotten a very good price on these products for these folks, and $5 shipping per order is a deal MOST places can't match. So does it really matter if these are "standard" baskets?

Terry, I like you alot and lord knows I have purchased plenty of stuff from you, and I hope to maintain a positive relationship. I'm just PO'd because of your tone and attitude towards a LARGE effort undertaken for the community's benefit.

Wow,

Jon, this not an attack on you at all. I think I have been clear all the way around. The "layer of transparency" is from another individuals post in this thread, and not my own use of the term.

There is a point to all of the information I have provided, and none of it is directed at you or your efforts, so I'm sorry that you feel that this is the case, Really.

I have commented a number of times with amazement with regards to how much work this effort has taken, and I'm still amazed. Please don't read anything more than that into to it. This is just a text book example of the power of suggestion, and I'm shocked by it.

Don't be PO'd and relax, I know I am. Jon, I have always been there for you when you needed me, and I'm not about to take away from that at this point.

This is about PF baskets and that's all.

FWIW, I also, kinda, sorta felt like Terry might be raining on JonR10's parade a bit. But, as I have learned long ago, I know it is all too easy to misinterpret the intention of a post, or the tone of an email, so I just relaxed. Terry, thanks for clearing the air. Jon, thank you for your efforts.

On another note, did Synesso have the needed quantity in stock?

just as it is misleading to call mz-107A a "Ridgeless La Marzocco Double Portafilter Basket" ? ;)

Doesn't the mz-107 on espressoparts.com looks more straight-sided than the one in the Synesso pic, or the picture above?

What I'm providing here is fact, while still providing a layer of transparency.

I was sort of hoping that everyone who sells the parts would be able to say who the manufacturer is, and reference a model number from them, like "acasaco xyz-102". I guess it's probably not that easy, though, I can't pretend to know anything about retail operations.

Yes please (Paul Harvey reference, right?)! For what it's worth, I hope I haven't come off sounding snarky in this thread, I appreciate the info Terry has contributed.

Yeah that's the part where I was being snarky :D

I was once chastised for called that basket what it was and is or whatever............

I think it is kind of interesting about parts and the who makes them thing. I suspect that many folks think GM makes all the parts for the cars they assemble, but the reality is that there will always be sub contractors. Who those sub contractors are will vary for year to year, or even month to month.

In the case of coffee equipment, parts is parts, some are better than others and the quality has a tendancy to vary. Baskets included.

Snarky is good....it get's everyone thinking and doesn't sugar coat the process. I think that an open dialog without a fanboy attitude is more beneficial overall.

There is more to all of this......... I will add to the information as time goes, but right now, I have to go get ready for the Northwest Barista Championship and the Northwest Roaster Guild Meeting, and then Coffeefest! Busy Busy.

Jon, you deserve a big THANKS for putting this together. I'd be glad to help defray any excess Paypal charges you have incurred (and I suspect others would too). Just let me know.

EPNW only offers one ridgeless double on their Website, so the Synesso baskets can't both be duplicates. I'm looking forward to giving mine a try!

Thanks again for your time and effort - John

I will laugh if Terry is Synesso's local wholesaler for baskets, and this entire order ends up going through Terry on its way to Synesso. Is this part of the story?

Terry, I love your store. I've bought a few parts from you over the years (nothing major like a machine), and your staff was always prompt, friendly, and efficient.

Thanks again to Jon for this whole project.

Thanks very much, but I'd rather just keep it as simple as possible, like it is.

All the cool vibes flowing are way more than enough for me! Mark's tamper offer is a super bonus as well....
Plus, I just got off the phone with Synesso and they're sending me a T-shirt!
How cool is THAT!!!!!

OK folks, the order is made.

We spent some money today folks!
All of the paypals cleared this AM (the e-checks took until today).

I'll update again when I get delivery information.

Cheers all,
Jon

To help defray the cost of the Paypal stuff, I volunteer to do my bit.
I'll give you ten bucks for the Synesso T! ; >

No, really, I'd be happy to contribute, too.

I've been using the 'synesso' since July and just had Reg Barber make a 58.2mm tamper. Fits all the baskets perfectly. All 3 measured 58.5±0.05mm.
