Geez.....Really?

AFAIK Synesso does not make baskets.......kinda like LM doesn't make the ridgeless that a certain CG'r made such a fuss over.

200 baskets in a personal collection...give me a break.

Teahan! Time to chime in on this one please. Save these folks.

Now that you mention it, the 18g basket pictured in Jon's photo does look a lot like the ridgeless basket that Dave slipped to me along with a prototype HB tamper months ago. And the 14g one looks a lot like the one that I bought years ago from 1st-line (the only two ridgeless baskets I own). I'll bust out laughing if it turns out to be the same ones.

This reminds me of the "Ultimate Upgrade" frenzy a few years back, remember? Oh, I got one of them too...

I think that I've got maybe ten. I feel so... inadequate.

Well, if they're the same basket, the samples I have are slightly larger in diameter than my Faema-style ridged baskets. I don't mind since I Staub tamp, but those who prefer tight fitting tampers might.

Take a look at the Synesso price list here:

http://www.synesso.com/AccessoryPriceList3.pdf

Portafilter baskets are only $4.79
If not for coffee, I'd have no personality at all.

That's right - for the 14G and the singles. The 18g and 21g are $9.79.
Everything is plus shipping and there's a $15 handling fee for orders under $50

I have never seen the 18g basket before, and I notice it isn't listed for sale on your site either. The others do appear to be standard...
Originally I was only going to offer that one but you know how things go! :D

Been happy with LM double ridged for years so never bothered getting the LM ridgeless. FWIW my normal build with the double LM ridged is consistently 18gr, slightly more or less depending on bean of course or if playing with over/under dosing which in truth I haven't much. Ordered one anyway. Be interesting if build size is bigger using same technique and if there's a difference in the cup.

Jon,

I just paypaled you. Please let me know if there are any problems.

I hope these baskets are more unique than TerryZ suggests :?

EDIT1: So,with the sheer volume of baskets being ordered, who wants to start a pool on whether they are backordered or not?

I suppose some transparency would be nice- who actually manufactures the baskets for machine manufacturers, or the aftermarket ones?

My gut feeling is that some baskets work better than others depending on coffee/dose/machine, etc. So it would be in my best interest to have a variety on hand, right?

Some of us are waiting for SOMEONE to put out some precision crafted baskets (maybe matched to a precision crafted tamper?)

According to an un-named CG'r he as well as a hundred or so others thought of this idea long ago, even mentioned it to my design partner prior to us even thinking about it.

I will let you in on it when the 2005 tamper shootout comes out or when CG speeds up..........which ever comes first :D

Terry's absolutely right, guys. I've had one of each of the above baskets since July. I got an e-mail regarding the basket sources from Synesso. I won't quote verbatim.

In summary:

The three baskets are obtained from 2 different suppliers. The 14 and 21g baskets come from a common supplier of espresso equipment in CA. They are made in Italy by a company that manufactures baskets for Astoria, CMA, Rio, an San Marco. The 18g baskets come from a Spanish manufacturer.

That jives with my memory from the order from 1st-line so many years ago. Aesco I think? I count an unacceptable FOUR missing holes on this bad boy. And the 14g basket has more then 10! Oh, nevermind, it may just be dirty.

Is this The Great Synesso Basket Group Buy or The Emporer's New Basket as Terry et al opine? We'll all know soon enough...

Oh, right ... Ascaso baskets ... it's all coming back to me now. Mark mentioned that they were thicker than normal and ridgeless, just like the baskets in the Azkoyen (cheap spanish HX) that I used to work on. The baskets might be standard, but I thought that they were pretty good! If anyone doesn't want them, they can send them my way ;P

Cheers,

Luca
