Hi All,
I am a new member, and I would like to thank the community for all of the great information. Your detailed posts saved me much frustration and time on my first project (deep cleaning a Super Jolly). I tore down the SJ yesterday and cleaned everything and then started to put it back together. From looking at the exploded diagram at http://www.espressospecialisten.s...eservdelslista.pdf I am missing two parts. These are the "Doser Washer" and the small screw which goes in the top of the "Doser adjustment screw".

Can anyone tell me what material the doser washer is? If you are looking at the PDF referenced above it is part number S000ROA02 (part 27 in the image below).

The screw I can match at the hardware store as I have one from a Mazzer Mini which fits. The question I have is: What is the small screw for (other than to fill in the hole at the end of the adjustment screw)? I can't figure out why they used a screw with a hole in the end.

One more question, the doser works fine once, and then the "nose" (see below) does not catch the "ratchet" and I have to move the star by hand a fraction of a turn (until I hear a click) and then the doser will work one more time. I am hoping that this is because I did not put the small retainer pin back in to hold the ratchet in position (so it spins with the doser adjustment screw). I plan to put the pin back in after I get a replacement washer.

I do have one suggestion to add to the community knowledge:

If you are taking off the portafilter rest (the fork) you should remove the base plate first and hold the nuts and washers from the inside so they are not lost inside the grinder. When you reassemble the grinder you should place a piece of tape over the nuts so that if you or someone else do not hold the nuts they will not be lost.

Thanks again,
Dan

Dan...my Rio SJ doser was missing the screw as well, while my Mazzer badged doser had it. I think it just locked the hex nut in place securely.
I wish I could lose the stainless shelf, where the grind always has to be be brushed off. A PITA.

The small screw at the top of the adjustment knob is a stop to keep the knob from being unscrewed and accidentally removed from the doser. I leave the adjustment screwed all the way to the lowest setting to make clean up a little easier.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I bought a new screw and popped it in to keep the coffee out of there (after scraping out more than I thought could have gotten in there). I also called Home Espresso Repair in Seattle to find out about the doser washer. They did not have any, but thought that it was a 1/8th inch thick teflon washer. I could not find such a beast locally, so I bought one of those rollup cutting boards and cut one out of that. It is probably only 1/32" (I should have cut a bunch of them and stacked...) but it seems to work out OK.

I did have to put the pin back into the ratchet to lock the screw, ratchet, and lower star together so that they would all turn properly. The doser now works as expected most of the time. Occasionally it does not turn far enough, but if I give it another try it finishes the turn and is ready to go again. This will work fine until I get tired of it and build a doserless mod :)

Take Care,
Dan

Rob,
Regarding that metal shelf over the opening:

It was driving me nuts too. I looked at the "Improving Mazzer doser efficiency" thread (improving-mazzer-doser-efficiency-t7074.html) and ran over to the hardware store. I bought parts very similar to the ones in Dan Kehn's part list and fit them into my doser. Now there are almost no grounds hitting the shelf and my doser is much more efficient.

Take Care,
Dan
