So I've been having some trouble using the steam wand on the used carezza I just picked up. It gives me about 15 seconds of steam/sputtering water before petering out. It would do this whether I had the steam switch on or off. I then checked the green ready light, and if I've got it up to brew temperature and then flip the steam switch, the green light doesn't go off. So this indicates to me that the carezza isn't heating up to steam temp, and that probably explains the weak steam production. Also, the steam switch doesn't have quite the feedback as the on/off switch and the brew switch. It doesn't seem to move all the way in either direction.

Unplug the machine, take the case off, disconnect the switch wires and test it with a continuity meter. If you don't get any continuity, or if it is constantly closed and never open, the switch is bad.

While you have it unplugged, cooled off, and cover removed as Dave suggests, also check the steam thermostat has continuity across its terminals.

I notice that one of the wires connected to the backside of the steam switch has been glued into place, as if it's had work done to it in the past.

I'm attaching a diagram of the wiring config on the back of the switches.

You can test it with the wires connected as long as you can get the probe on the spades.

I actually have both at the moment. And a rocky. :D

Still looking for an electricity meter. I might do a temperature test to see if I'm getting up to steam temp. What temp. should the water @ steam temp get to? If I'm not getting up to steam temp, I think I'm going to get a new steam thermostat.
