Macchiato.

I have never had a 'specialty' (I am reading that as sweet) drink I liked. They are all so sweet (lip-puckering sweet).

Which macchiato? Traditional long/short? Contemparary? Do you prefer to make it or drink it?

The specialty drinks served at commercial establishments are usually "sugar bombs." I cannot relate to them as a coffee drink. However, I do enjoy the originality of the speciality drinks at barista competitions and wrote some up from the 2006 USBC and 2005 SERBC (republished with photos on CoffeeGeek). As a judge, I look forward to experiencing something new and unexpected. The competitors know that foo foo sugar bombs will be shot down, so they're always looking for an original angle. Unfortunately a lot of these drinks are too labor intensive or the ingredients too expensive / impractical for cafe service.

Was that the molasses and star anise drink? I was intrigued by that when reading about it, but have not gotten around to trying to make anything of the sort.

My assumption that the OP was talking about the 'sugar bombs' was based on the fact that his examples were 'milky way, snickers, reeses, etc.'

To the OP - traditional macchiato or a short (4oz) cappa are my preferred things to drink.

My favorite is traditional macchiato, the drinking part of the equation :D

I don't think that the Red Eye or the Grinder have any added sugar...they're both abit strong though...

That's it. Abe was one of the judges in Matt's first round, but I never got to taste it. :?
