I'm relatively new to this site and have been doing a bunch of reach (FAQs and posts). I am using a KitchenAid Pro Line espresso unit with pretty good success. For the first month of use, my pucks were pretty dry when knocking them out of the pf but I've noticed that they've been increasingly soggy of late. In fact, sometimes I find a small amount of residual water sitting on top of the puck when I remove the pf from the grouphead immediately after pulling a shot. This doesn't seem right to me but perhaps it's normal. I just don't know.

Any similar experiences out there?

Any change in the espresso's taste? Generally speaking, a soggy puck means nothing more than there's a little extra clearance between the puck surface and the dispersion screen. If it offends, add an extra gram of coffee or wait an extra minute before removing the portafilter.

For more information, search on "puckology".
