As long as no one ever posts the price, I can imagine it being $20,000 and -- you know -- that's just too much . . .

Well Jason, given that an Idro is around 10 at today's exchange rates (give or take a grand or two depending on your seller), without a lot of the tech that goes into the Speedster, it seems to me you may not be as far off as you think...

On my visit, I did not ask for an indicative price as Kees mentioned he was still figuring out the price. Also, I felt, if you need to  ask, you'll probably not be able to afford it.

That is an interesting assumption, but I am not sure I agree with it.
Take Mirage Duette Classic and Mirage Veloce to estimate the Veloce body work uplift and add that to the price of the Bastone, now take a bit off because we are talking single group and make sure you cover for Speedster special features by not taking off too much.

Well, I don't know about the Mirage Veloce, I was comparing to the Idro, which I think lacks the second boiler, the pump and associated plumbing, the PID, etc... I could be wrong, but it seems to me like the Speedster carries some tech (and costs) that the Idro does not, though it's certainly also true that you will save some as well by going single group.

I do not get the impression that Kees wants to do a limited edition Mk II. Although we did not discuss that, I guess his newly developed group on the Mk II will come back in production series of his larger commercial machines.
In a large corporation with all sorts of internal cross charging, the cost of R&D might be an initial issue, as some manager or shareholder internally wants to earn that back. In a small firm like Kees's I cannot imagine that to be an issue at all driving the price. Also, I would not believe he would think "monopolist" and try a game of "vertical price discrimination over time", as this might cause reputation damage (sometimes monopolists saturate markets by initially selling their product very expensively to an elite in order to progressively lower price over time and serve less affluent markets.)

Peter

An Idrocompresso is single boiler indeed, but so are the E/61 models that Kees does.
It would have a PID for the steam boiler - like the Mk II Speedster, although the Mk II has two PIDs.
A pump is not that expensive that it rises the price by thousands.

It seems the price will be €4975 here in Europe. Don't know how this will translate to dollars though...

As of last night, 4975 EUROS is equal to $7,708.51 USD.

Wow, if true, that's $800 less than a single group Synesso! (And thousands less than an Idro depending on who you buy it from...) Color me surprised.

Is service only available from Kees in Europe? If someone in the US bought one of these, who fixes it when it's broken?

He has several authorized dealers here (I found this out while considering the Idro for home before getting the GS/3), so one would imagine they could provide any necessary service.

Otherwise, if anyone has problems with one, I'll be happy to escort their machine to Kees personally for the cost of a ticket.

Keep in mind when guessing at US retails that you cannot buy a Euro at the international exchange rate, service fees will add another $.08-$.10 to every Euro purchased. I import custom motorcycle shocks from a company located only about 25 Km from Kees location and did not figure in the service fees when I originally set prices. Big mistake. I've fixed it now but it's an eye-opener.

So more like $8400, call it $8500 for a nice round figure.

Now I have 2 reasons to visit the homeland (I'm 25% Dutch).

Been meaning to email Kees about his black color scheme but this forum will make sure he gets the message (I'm sure).

The black color scheme does add a very nice "black tie" (or perhaps Bauhaus) touch to the unit but it is still lacking something . . . .

And that is to bring back the red "Speedster" lettering on the side panels.

That red will pick up the red in the gauges and "walla" the most beautiful single group on the planet.

Period.

If $8500 is the number, then it would be equal to the Synesso - going to go bring one back, and invite us all over to gawk? ;-)
