The smell of heat . . .

Want to talk espresso but not sure which forum? If so, this is the right one.

This will probably make many of you laugh, which is not exactly my intention . . .

I am quite new to this whole communicating about flavors and aromas thing (and to a certain extent, simply appreciating them) and this afternoon I had a real breakthrough- while trying to describe (to myself) the aroma of an espresso I had just made, I realized that part of the 'aroma' was simply the sensation of inhaling hot vapors!

Funny, once I got this out of the way, a whole bunch of other flavors became clear to me! (clearer would be a better word)

It's a lot more apparent (and pleasantly sinus moistening) in the dry indoor air of winter.

Do you let it cool just to appreciate the aroma or also before tasting?
