Most Central Americans for my taste are bit too bright as SO espresso. Sort of lost control roasting couple days ago a batch of El Salvodor 100% Orange Bourbon from the Santa Rita region. The roast entered well into the 2nd crack before I started the cool down. About 12 seconds into the second crack. This morning on the Elektra Micro Casa and the Ponte Vecchio Lusso I tried a few SO espresso using these beans. Doubles on the Micro Casa and ristrettos on the Lusso. Pleasant orange-chocholate with a very nice balance between sweetness and brightness. An Orange Bourbon with a hint of orange sweetness! This was a '07 crop. Only ~2kg left. Wish I would have realized the virtues of this bean earlier.

Now the quest begins. An '08 replacement for this El Salvador Orange Bourbon.

Hey!...if that's the SM's version, I did the same thing in the Behmor...I had this coffee about 5 months ago...it is a wonderful SO, exactly where you took it....took the roast beautifully...the beans LOOKED super, as well....just liker a pro roast!
Enjoy!...I waiting for my 51mm tamper from Reg Barber so I can try my La Pavoni...I happen to have about 6 oz of the same bean!

Yes, greens from SweetMarias. Emailed Maria & Tom to see what's coming this season that may be similar in character. This batch of El Salvodoran has been the first 100% Orange Bourbon I've purchased. Yes, it does roast up real nice looking. A bonus to go along with the flavor profile. Real heavy chaff with this bean. The GeneCafe roaster handled the chaff. The old 1st gen HotTops I have would have been sparking and smoking.

I've had a number of great El Sal's that were fantastic as SO espresso. Probably more from there than any other country, as far as great balance in one bean.

Not a commercial here, but generally the Behmor has no problem with it...maybe a # of Yemen or Sidamo will have a few tiny smoldering chaff bits, but they go out as soon as the cooling process starts.
I don't take chaff as seriously as others, as I roast in the garage....just easier.....
