Single, Double or Quadruple baskets?

Want to talk espresso but not sure which forum? If so, this is the right one.

There is always a lot of talk of the single basket(and people who throw them away cuz they are "useless"(AND the supplied tamper cuz that too is "useless", ..ok, IT is..)), preferring the double, lately the trend has been leaning more & more on the triple basket!

Am i a wimp for enjoying my shots from a single basket?
I think the espresso starts to taste bad if it's too strong.

Tamp a single basket nice & hard and you get smooth crema filled great tasting wimpy shots

(Beeing a newbie, I must re-visit this thread after some years, when totally hooked on caffeine, brewing from triplets welded together and drinking straight from that tray cuz there is no room for a cup under the MEGAfilter :D )

If you like it - it's good.

For me the whole double vs single thing has nothing to do with drink strength but rather with consistency of quality. I find it far harder to produce consistently high quality espresso from a single basket.

That being said... if there is a notable flavour difference in the coffee from your single and your double basket and the shots from your double taste worse than the shots from your single I would predict that you are seeing a flaw in your technique (perhaps or probably your grind).

Yes, there is a difference in taste between single & double filter, i just always thought it was because i didn't like it strong...it could be the grind.

My grinder does the job and makes it small enough(powder) but I have anyway been thinking of getting a new grinder as a christmas present for myself.
