Should I get Krups GVX2 burr grinder?

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

More information from the krups page...
http://www.krupsusa.com/All+Produ...ucts/GVX2/GVX2.htm

MSRP of $75.00

But I can get it for 40% off.
I would get it for $47.70 after discount and taxes...

Consider the fact that its about all I can afford is around $50 for a grinder right now...

Just hoping that this is a quality product by krups, and a good starting burr grinder for me.

NOTE: the fact that I would probably end up grinding more beans than necessary for whatever amount of shots i'm pulling, is totally okay with me. The issue of wasting some grounds isn't a problem, right now I get a full half pound ground at a time, and end up wasting alot of it because it goes stale so quickly.

Krups sponsored EspressoFest 2004 and sent me that grinder as a thank you gift for organizing the event. While I appreciate the gesture, it's one of the "fake" burr grinders Jim warns about in Home Barista's Guide to Espresso, Introduction to Espresso Grinders:

I think that you would be better off with a manual grinder or inexpensive electric grinder.

You would be better off just pounding the coffee with a hammer in a zip-top bag. That is basically what that grinder does.

Haha, thanks. I'm trying to get a better grinder off craigs list... but this guy wants to sell everything as a set (he has cafe equipment for a professional setting... but I only want one of his grinders)

I'll take it off your hands until I get a better grinder

What about a Baratza Refurb :)

http://www.baratza.com/refurb.php ?

I just ordered a Virtuso for French Press / Drip at work. I should get it this wednesday, and will be able to comment on the condition of the refurbs.

You could get a maestro for 50 bucks? I think it's a better choice than the Krups?

Check out what people said in my thread about the grinder:
