I just received an order from Counter Culture (Toscano and Decaf Harfusa), and it arrived on my door step 7 days after the roast date. Is this normal for UPS delivery to the SF area?

Ordered Saturday, roasted Monday, shipped Tuesday, arrived the following Monday.

UPS ground across the country is either 4 or 5 business days, mostly it's 4 between big cities and 5 if one of them is small.

In the future ask them to ship on Monday and then you'll have it on Friday, not good, but 2 days better.

Roast Monday, ship Monday? I was hoping they would do that this time, but their default seems to be otherwise. Will they do that on special request?

I'm not sure if Counter Culture will do this, but you might ask them if they'll ship via USPS Priority Mail. For cross-country shipments it's 2-3 days faster than UPS ground, and usually less expensive.

Or try another roaster. Paradise Roaster and Klash Roasting roast and ship on the same day and Paradise has UPS and USPS service.

That's one of the reasons that I've not ordered from them (and some others). I look for vendors who will ship USPS priority. Good suggestion to ask if they will ship that way ......

I prefer USPS for coast-to-coast shipments too, but FYI, the prime window for Toscano is days 7 through 9.

Hi, CoffeeBuzz,

Nathan from Counter Culture Coffee here. Looking back at the tracking information, the order shipped Monday (same day as roasted). You likely received a shipping notice/confirmation the following morning, but, to reiterate/clarify, we always roast, package, and ship the same day.

As for the delivery time for your order, UPS Ground from Durham 27713 to you (near San Francisco) takes a full week, it seems, both according to their estimation and in this instance.

I'm sorry for the limitations of UPS (Ground, in particular). We expect to include USPS as a shipping option as soon as possible, but we are not yet there in terms of integrating it into our production process.

The preferred minimum rest for Espresso Toscano varies from one person to the next, of course, with some saying 4-5 days and others saying longer (like Dan!), though that isn't meant as a validation for ship time. We do offer expedited shipping options via UPS, and I acknowledge that there are other coffee options available, as folks here have observed, but we hope that you'll find the quality of the coffee remarkable enough to return to Counter Culture Coffee in the future.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can answer any questions here or via email (nbrown@counterculturecoffee.com) about shipping or anything CCC-related.

Best,
Nathan

Nathan, Thanks for the response, and thanks again for the tour of Counter Culture today. (Several colleagues and I happened to be in Raleigh today, and Nathan graciously volunteered to show us around.)

As you pointed out, UPS shipping time can vary by several days depending on the source and destination locations, and their proximity to major hubs.

The UPS Time Calculator (https://wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/request?loc=en_US) can be a useful tool if one wants experiment with ship dates.
